Cleaning up After Mother Nature.
(Oh no! Not again!)

What a wild, weird and wonderful start to the winter it has been on the Sunshine Coast. At First Response Restoration, we’ve been at full throttle for the past couple of months helping our community prevent as much damage as possible, and repair what couldn’t be prevented.

There is very little influence we can bring to bear on ‘atmospheric rivers’ and ‘Arctic outflows’, which this year have been mighty and frequent. And as much as we all strive to take preventative action, sometimes the branch just gets too much snow and ice build up on it; sometimes the eavestrough gets so much snow and freezing rain that it simply ices up and expands. And every once in a decade or so, we have rivers of precipitation that flood through buildings, homes and offices, creating small lakes where a living room was supposed to be. In those cases, we have no choice but to suck it up, literally, and try to make the repairs so thorough that the same catastrophe cannot happen again.

That’s the theme of our blog today: flood me once, shame on you. Flood me twice, shame on me! When we have been called to restore a beautiful home or even a retail or commercial space, our goal is not just to restore the space to it’s pre-disaster state. Our goal is to make it better, both in terms of comfort, design and beauty, and in terms of protecting against future incursions from an unfriendly storm.

We do this by inspecting the ingress and egress locations of the water; by thoroughly inspecting the property and surrounding area to look for opportunities to redirect overflow before it reaches the actual building. At the building itself, we look for opportunities to add a bulwark against nature that in no way compromises the style and appeal of the structure. Even when we are restoring and repairing after an event, we conduct “upstreaming” to find where we can prevent the damage before it reaches the property the next time

Taking these precautionary steps in regard to any and all damages is a worthwhile exercise for us all. Don’t feel alone as you contemplate protecting your most valuable real estate assets - we are always here, and always ready to jump.  Call us up, and let us help.

If you suspect water damage (or any other damage) in your home, give us a call at 604.886.5949 or email us directly at info@first-response.ca.  We’ve got your back.
